C.H.A.P.
                                  Child Health Access Program

Why C.H.A.P is needed? Almost 50% of the students in the Madison County Public School
System are eligible for the USDA’s Free and Reduced Lunch program.  This indicates economic barriers to their receiving adequate health access.  C.H.A.P. is designed to bridge the gap and eliminate the disparities these children experience in all our schools.  The Anderson C.H.A.P. is held in conjunction with the Free and Reduced Lunch Program sign-up, administered by the Anderson Community School Corp., so that it is very convenient and accessible to the students who need it.  The Elwood C.H.A.P. is held at each elementary school during the school enrollment, also making it very convenient and accessible.

C.H.A.P (Child Health Access Program) was developed in 2001 to provide a health assessment, service, and education program for children in Madison County and other counties.  It includes school physicals, dental screenings, immunizations, hearing and vision screenings, lead, diabetes, and pediculosis (head lice) screening, as well as educational booths.  C.H.A.P is an annual program , ensuring the Madison County’s children have 100% Access— 0 Disparity to affordable, quality health care. It is designed to ensure that all young people in Madison County have access to quality health care.  The program is specifically designed to make this access easy by providing programs at school and community locations.

This is a collaborative effort involving many different agencies.  Our past collaborating providers, volunteer groups, and educators have included:
